Here’s the first of a few Paris posts on deck…After a long day of touristy gallivanting at Versailles and the Louvre, I stopped into L’Ardoise, the name of which is French for “slate,” a reference to the daily specials written in chalk. I ordered the pre-fixe with a snail, mushroom and cream pastry to start and the rabbit braised en cocotte for my main And for dessert, a grapefruit and tropical fruit millefeuille.

Hey, NewYorkavores! I just got back to the city and have so much to tell you, but my head’s still spinning. While I’m busy unpacking all the jams, mustards, spice blends and other assorted foodstuffs I picked up along the way (more on that later), I leave you with these pretty chanterelles from one of Paris’ incomparable markets to tide you over. I sauteed them with butter (from the fromagerie), served them with eggs (from the butcher), salad (from the vegetable market) and a baguette (from the boulangerie) — all on Rue Montorgueil. A fun foodie scavenger hunt and a simple but delicious breakfast made for a lovely morning at home in Paris.
