At press time, Harvest on Fort Pond is my favorite resto in MTK. I’ve been twice now, and the first time I had this lovely piece of fish in a vanilla corn sauce that I’m still dreaming of. They serve family-size portions which are the antithesis of the small-plate movement, so two people would order one app and one main and split it. In this format, I find you get to really dig in and just concentrate on the flavors of that one thing instead of the what’s-coming-out-next mentality you have when you order 17 things. It’s quite soothing actually.

The only thing I like better than making my way out to Montauk is getting a ride out to Montauk. We drove down through Connecticut to the New London ferry and hit a ton of farmstands once we got off at Orient Point, Long Island. Fresh sweet corn, juicy just-picked peaches, bursting berries…it was almost too much to bear. So far, I’ve assembled some fierce salads of crisp greens balanced out with perfectly ripe fruit and also concocted a corn salad with cherry tomatoes, baby purple onion and basil. Summer never tasted so good.
